Our annual Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) Financial Aid telecast was a big success. |
State Reports... At this writing, we are three days away from our annual
OASFAA conference (February 3-5th) at Salishan
Lodge on the Oregon coast. I can see from the emails I've
received from our wonderful conference chair, Sue Gano
of Oregon Health Sciences University, that last minute
issues are causing concern. Yet, she's chaired one of the
most effective committees ever. Our conference agenda
has something for everyone. We have exciting speakers
lined up; great interest sessions, and even a Super Bowl
Party Sunday afternoon! We held our annual Support Staff Workshop on December 5th. The event committee did a great job and the support staff who attended experienced some learning and fun in the same day. Our annual Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) Financial Aid telecast was a big success. The show was broadcast on December 11th. We had a good volunteer turnout - volunteers answer phone calls from all over the state as the broadcast takes place and for one hour afterward. Again, thanks to the great work of the committee chair, volunteer coordinator and OPB staff, the broadcast garnered its best "market share" rating ever. Finally, since this is my last state report as OASFAA president, I'd like to say thank you to everyone in the Oregon association who's served either on the executive council or on a committee this year. The association works because of you. Being president is a little bit scary, I guess because folks look to you for answers, decisions, and occasional conflict resolution. It's not really difficult though compared to being annual conference chair or treasurer - those positions take a real commitment of time and energy - as do other committee chair positions. If presidents do anything really important it's picking good committee chairs who will plan association events that are developmental (and fun!) for our membership. Our association will continue to prosper and succeed as long as we nurture it by volunteering our time and energy. Our incoming president, Tracy Reisinger of the University of Portland, will certainly ensure our prosperity and success. |
