May 1st marked the start of a new PacFAA year. President Eric Nemoto, Vice President Cathy Bio, (Maui Community College), Secretary Lori Ann Nakata (Hawaii Pacific University), Treasurer Frank Green (Travel Institute of the Pacific), President Elect Frank Silva (University of Hawaii at Manoa), and Past President Frances Dinnan (Kauai Community College) are primed for what is anticipated to be one of PacFAA's most exciting years. At this writing, the group was set to have the first official meeting and to begin to lay out many of its activities, which includes:
  • Its annual high school counselor training workshop in October
  • A fall PacFAA conference in November (as opposed to its usual spring slot which will be taken this upcoming year by WASFAA)
  • Continued expansion of its Financial Aid Nights in local high schools
  • A move to finally establish the association as a nonprofit entity
  • More visibility throughout the year through members participating in a local TV morning show
  • Proceeding with its second year of helping produce College Goal Sunday in February 2003
  • Assisting with the WASFAA conference in April 2003
With respect to the last, and arguably most important item, PacFAA extends its official welcoming notice to all WASFAA members about getting to Honolulu next year! Plan your schedules NOW! Coax your administration. Even have your bake sales. Do whatever you need to do! For it has often been said, your worst day in Hawaii is still going to be better than your best day in the office! So plan now and we hope to see you all here in April of next year!
