State Reports... Now that we are back in our offices preparing for the
upcoming school year, we would like to thank our colleagues
in Idaho for a great conference. The effort that
went into the conference was greatly appreciated by all of
us in Nevada. While in Boise, Nevada held their spring
meeting and installed their new executive board.President Laura Whitelaw thanked her outgoing executive board for all of their hard work and turned over the reigns to this year's president, Marsha Dupree from the University of Nevada, Reno.Marsha started the year with her Executive Board intact. Joining Marsha are Laura Whitelaw from Western Nevada Community College as Past-president, Yvonne Hicks from the University of Phoenix-Nevada as Vice-president/President elect, Renee McCloud from the University of Nevada, Reno as Secretary, and Lori Brown from Truckee Meadows Community College as Treasurer. Along with the Executive Board, Marsha has appointed some key committee chairs. Mona Concha-Buckheart from Truckee Meadows Community College has agreed to continue to chair NAFAA's Training committee and to serve as NAFAA Training Coordinator. Sandy Guidry From the University of Nevada, Reno will serve as Awards Committee Chair. Sharon Wurm from Truckee Meadows Community College will serve as Membership Chair and Renee Baker from Truckee Meadows Community College will serve as chair of the Scholarship committee. Yvonne Hicks will continue to serve as Electronic Services committee Chair, and Al Camp has agreed to serve as NAFAA's Newsletter editor and to write these Nevada Reports for the WASFAA newsletter. Members in the News: Sandy Guidry and Mona Concha-Buckheart are serving as site coordinators for WASFAA's Summer Institute- Basic Track to be held on campus at the University of Nevada, Reno this June. Also, Christopher Stevens from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will be joining the Summer Institute faculty. NAFAA is proud to be hosting the Summer Institute this year. Laura Whitelaw will serve as editor of the WASFAA newsletter this year, and Yvonne Hicks will serve as the segmental member at large on WASFAA's Executive Board. Thanks to each of these members who give so tirelessly of themselves. Special congratulations to Mona Concha-Buckheart for winning WASFAA's distinguished service award and upon her recent election as a member at large for NASFAA. Upcoming NAFAA Events: At our meeting in Boise, NAFAA voted to contract for professional website support and our electronic services committee is busy trying to get the site up and running. We hope to have it up and running the end of July 2002. We will provide our new website address and listserv address at they become available. Also, plans continue for the NAFAA Fall Conference that will be held at The Alexis Park Resort and Spa in Las Vegas 09-10 October 2002. Ben Loya from EdFund and Yvonne Hicks from the University of Phoenix -Nevada are this year's Conference Committee Co-Chairs. The theme for this year's conference is "Working Magic for Your Students... Solving the Mysteries of Financial Aid". Make plans now to join us there. |
