WASFAA Happenings ... OASFAA held its annual Summer Drive-In Workshop
at the University of Oregon in July. The Committee chose
a Hawaiian Holiday theme to compensate for those members
who were unable to make the journey to a tropical
paradise this past summer. The theme prepped our membership
for the WASFAA conference in 2003.![]() photo above: (l to r) Hope Brown, Oregon Graduate Institute, Julie Johnson of College of Legal Arts, David Lomond, the Hawaiian Elvis, and Jackie Gresham, George Fox University. The weather was as tropical as it gets for Oregon and those that attended were attired in their most splendid Hawaiian fashions. The lunchtime entertainment was provided by Eugene, Oregon's one and only "Hawaiian Elvis." There was the added enjoyment of an appearance of Elvis's younger brother, Aaron. Rumor has it that Aaron has stolen the identity of our OASFAA President, Sam Collie, and is impersonating the Director of Financial Aid at Portland State University!
On the serious side of the Workshop, members attended
a variety of sessions, devoted to issues of diversity, the
student side of stress in a college environment, State programs
and initiatives, as well as federal updates and special
interest sessions. A special thanks to Marianna
Deeken, our Region X Representative, whose stamina was
tested in providing a variety of Title IV subjects, and was
pressed into service the entire day (we did allow her to
stop for lunch!).![]() photo above: OASFAA's Summer Drive-in Workshop Committee: (l to r) John Climaldi, Phagans' Beauty College, Julie McBride, PNC Bank, Bert Logan, U of O, Elvis, Michele O'Leary, OSAC, Katrina Schmidt, U of O, Suzie Petersen, Klamath CC.
