WASFAA is you, me, your peers in the next cubicle, at the desk in another office, down the road or across state borders! |
WASFAA Happenings... While all of you know what the word volunteer means, I thought I'd share it
from the words of Webster. The definition of volunteer (noun) is one who
enters into or offers oneself for a service of one's own free will or volunteer
(verb) to offer oneself as a volunteer. So, you may ask, why should I volunteer
to work on a committee for WASFAA? Well, let me share with you some of my
thoughts on this...Volunteering for WASFAA (or any organization) is professional development. A number of skills may be enhanced such as leadership, time management, organization and delegation. It also provides an opportunity to make a difference and have input in the association's business, helping other members, meet new colleagues, renew acquaintances and expand your network. People volunteer for any number of reasons but many do so because they believe in the organization and giving back to it and they feel they have something to contribute to the organization even in a small way. WASFAA is you, me, your peers in the next cubicle, at the desk in another office, down the road or across state borders! WASFAA exists due to the generosity of its members and their institutions. I realize that time is a commodity and very precious but I hope you'll consider volunteering for your organization. There are a number of committees - some have more tasks than others do but there is undoubtedly something that you can do to participate! Keep in mind that we begin working on Reauthorization during 2002 and your opinions can make a difference and the Federal Relations committee would appreciate your contribution. Don't delay! Complete the volunteer form on this website!! To paraphrase an anonymous quote, "Don't dream up thousands of reasons why you can't volunteer and participate; find one reason why you can." I look forward to serving as your President for 2002-2003 but I can't do it alone. WASFAA does not function solely on the work of the Executive Council but includes committees and members working together for the better good! If you have any issues or concerns you wish to have addressed, let me know at kingtodc@t-bird.edu or 602-978-7888. This is also your chance to participate and share your issues or concerns. I hope to hear from you soon. |
