PacFAA's Executive Council has been very busy. Since they took office in May, we have had three meetings and are primed to continue meetings monthly throughout the year. Through our deliberations, we have planned many activities and decided on numerous things. These include:

The on again/off again Fall PacFAA Conference is off. Given the WASFAA Conference occurring in our usual spring slot, we had wanted to hold a mini-conference of sorts in November. While we still will have much to do during that time, (Federal Training on November 12th and 13th, and NASFAA/WASFAA training on the 14th), we elected to not pursue putting on a "PacFAA Conference" during the middle of these events. Still, with these activities, PacFAA members will receive a full slate of training.

There has also been a change in schedule for our high school counselor workshops from our last report. Originally intended for the latter part of October, it is now happening on November 6th (Oahu), November 7th (The Big Island), and May 8th (Maui). Marianna Deeken will be presenting. We are pursuing our 501©3 designation and are researching the prospect of picking up insurance for the EC.

We are readying a letter campaign to various constituencies in hopes of actively promoting our upcoming WASFAA Conference in April 2003 right here in Honolulu. These constituencies include: our colleagues in the Pacific Basin (both in financial aid, as well as all who work in student services); members of our Hawaii admissions professionals (HACAC); and all student service professionals within the state of Hawaii. We also plan to send out a letter to all presidents of Hawaii colleges and universities, asking for their support in terms of giving their staff time off, and also, to be amenable to any funding requests.

We anticipate providing a small scholarship to assist those PacFAA members who would like to attend the WASFAA conference but who need assistance financially. We anticipate a full and active year (again) when it comes time for providing Financial Aid Nights in our high schools, and our College Goal Sunday committee is meeting consistently to plan the event, which, this year, will be held at two locations (Kapolei Middle School and McKinley High School). College Goal Sunday is scheduled for February 16, 2003.

All in all, we anticipate a very busy year and, again, look forward to seeing everyone at the WASFAA Conference next April!
