Even with the diverse spectrum we Administrators of Financial Aid come from, we still have a common destination: to help the student to the best of our ability.

Letter to EDAC and WASFAA members

I want to thank the WASFAA Ethnic Diversity Action Committee for the scholarship that allowed me the opportunity to attend the 2001 WASFAA Summer Institute. I was fortunate enough to meet the faculty members of the WASFAA Summer Institute and Ms. Verlene Van Amber.

This was truly a learning and growth experience for me. I am sure all others would agree who attended. We were equally bombarded with the buzz that the WASFAA Summer Institute generates. I still feel the electricity as I write.

I was hesitant going into the conference, fearing I wouldn't know enough to even be in attendance. The faculty eased my fears as well as the others, as we smiled and nodded with agreement of all that was presented.

The magic happened when I had the chance to meet several other conference members individually. Even with the diverse spectrum we Administrators of Financial Aid come from, we still have a common destination: to help the student to the best of our ability. Whether we could follow the presentations, we held on together as we navigated uncharted waters. If we question our decisions on our individual ships, we now have a guidebook for reference and others we can contact.

I thank the faculty for the dedication that they generously brought together to make for a successful week.

By the way, I spoke with Mr. Leon the other day and he aired out the closet of Ms. Verlene Van Amber. Girl, I don't know how you can keep that curl all day and night.

Thank you,
Michael G. Luna
