State Updates: Nevada State Report

The Nevada State Association Annual Conference will be held on October 10 & 11 at Harvey's Resort at beautiful Lake Tahoe. Our theme will be "Reaching New Heights." We are hoping NAFAA members are making preparation to attend this event.

NAFAA is working with the WASFAA Summer Institute committee and looking forward to being the host state for the 2002 Summer Institute. It will be held in the "Biggest Little City in the World" - Reno, Nevada.

Laura Whitelaw, NAFAA president, envisions increasing our membership by reaching out more to our proprietary schools within our state by offering more training and workshop opportunities that will address their needs. Watch for more to come on this topic.

In a continuous effort for our state to try to increase the number of Nevada high school graduates enrolling in college, our state legislators are now allowing students receiving the Millennium Scholarship to use it while attending the Sierra Nevada College, an independent nonsectarian liberal arts college in our state. Last school year only students attending schools within the University & Community College System of Nevada were able to use this scholarship which was created from some of the tobacco lawsuit funds.

There is a new face in the financial aid office at Western Nevada Community College by the name of Susan Hannah. She has recently been named the new Interim Director for that office.
