The Oregon association held its annual conference at
Salishan Lodge in Glenenden, Oregon, February 4-6.
Conference Chair, Theresa Bosworth, from Blue
Mountain Community College and her conference
committee did an outstanding job. The conference agenda
was well received and the sessions well attended.
We bade farewell to retirees Conney Alexander
(Southern Oregon University), Jim Beyer (Director,
Grants & Scholarships at the Oregon Student Assistance
Commission), and Tom Turner (Director, Special Services
at the Oregon Student Assistance Commission). We also
said goodbye to outgoing association president, Don
Black. Don is now the Director of Financial Aid at
Humboldt State University in California.
Our annual Support Staff Worship was held on
December 5, 2000 at the George Fox University Portland
Center. Our "FA 101" training was so popular we had to provide two sessions - one of January 25 and the other on
February 28. Both sessions were held at Linfield College.
Ballots for the 2001-02 OASFAA Executive Council
are in the hands of the voting membership. A transition
meeting for outgoing and incoming executive council
members is planned in April. Sue Gano from Oregon
Health Sciences University has agreed to serve as conference
chair for the 2002 conference.
While the recent earthquake did little damage in
Oregon, members in the Portland and surrounding areas
certainly felt the earth rolling underneath - a scary
proposition to be sure. Do you have your earthquake
emergency kit ready?
