Newsletter Editorial Update...
Are Your Policies Zipped Up?
by Becky Cady & Judy Saling, WASFAA Newsletter Co-Editors
As October 1 and October 7, 2000 pass us by and the last vestiges of the
latest reauthorization and amendments to the Higher Education Act get
put into play, this issue of the WASFAA newsletter offers a nod to Federal
Regulations.
A guest article from the Department of Health and Human Services
Division of Student Assistance, "Health Resources & Services Administration:
Unique Goals For Student Assistance" discusses this agency's role in
funding health professions student aid and how the purpose and mission of
the Division and its regulations differ from the more typical Department of
Education Title IV Federal Aid programs. Two other articles, "Federal Update
Update-or-Where Do These People Come From?" and "Are You Sure You
Really Want to Ask that Question?" take different approaches to addressing
how we ask questions to help us best decipher and implement all these
regulatory policies and procedures.
Do note the numerous dates and locations for the WASFAA Fall Training
Seminars guiding financial aid administrators through the maze of professional
judgment. The WASFAA web site also provides additional information
on specific times and registration procedures. And, the Calendar of Events on
the web includes listings for the state conferences happening within the region
during the fall.
We would like to thank all the contributors to this issue, and each of
the members of the WASFAA Executive Council and various committees
whose contributions help make the newsletter informative and entertaining
to read!
Enjoy autumn!
