Nevada State Update
by NAFAA President Al Camp,
Western Nevada Community College
www.tmcc.edu/finaid/nafaa/nafaaweb.html

The State of Nevada's Millennium Scholarship Program has taken off! This was the first year that eligible Nevada students were able to enroll in an institution of the University and Community College System of Nevada, utilizing the Millennium Scholarship. So far approximately 4,000 students have taken advantage of this wonderful program. Eligible Nevada high school students may receive up to $10,000 toward their educational pursuits within the state.

We expect the number of students to significantly increase over the next few years as more students become eligible. Space has doubled for the Student Services Department at the University of Nevada Reno as they have recently moved into their new building. The Financial Aid Department has the whole 3rd floor to themselves!

Nevada would like to welcome some new Financial Aid employees within the State: Sierra Nevada College has hired a new Director of Financial Aid, Dorothy Carusso. The University of Nevada Reno hired three new advisors, Debra Buringurd, Ruth Scheel and Renee McClouden. Also, Truckee Meadows reported that they have hired three new employees, Kathleen Taylor, Pat Barnelt and Tara Dunn. Welcome!

Our joint Arizona/Nevada Conference is progressing well with many exciting issues to be covered. Nevada will host a pre-conference golf tournament on November 14th. The Conference will be held at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel in Laughlin, NV on November 14th through the 17th. Our conference committee promises to have materials on the conference out soon, so watch your mailbox. If you want to register for the Golf Tournament or if you would like more information on the Conference, please see our website at www.tmcc.edu/finaid/nafaa or call us at (775)445-3264.
