PacFAA Spring Conference 2000 Aloha from Honolulu, Hawaii! As a Cub Reporter for WASFAA, I'm glad to report that our PacFAA annual conference, "Leaping into the Millennium", was a success. On the first day of the conference (2/29/00), we opened with box lunches and a guest speaker from USA Group, Ludie Dickison, who gave an excellent presentation on customer service. Ludie's topic was titled "Go Fish" and featured a video on Pikes Place Market in Seattle, Washington. Then we had two separate breakout sessions featuring Professional Judgment, Return of Federal Funds, and "To Web or Not to Web". These break out sessions turned out to be a great selection/variety to chose from. In the Professional Judgment session, there was a panel made up of different types of schools (community colleges and private schools). This panel helped many of us, since each came with different backgrounds. "Look before you Leap!" was a session done by Marianna Deeken from the Department of Education. The "To Web or Not to Web" session was by Lester Ishimoto (Honolulu Community College) about the aspects involved in creating a web page. The day came to an end with a Mahalo Reception provided by PacFAA to thank everyone involved in this annual event. On March 1, 2000, we lept off into the next millennium with a continental breakfast sponsored by Chase Manhattan Bank and Sallie Mae. Soon after, we were treated by the WASFAA Ethnic Diversity Committee, made up of Jannine Oyama and Beverly Porter. On this day we had breakout sessions on Distance Education and Student Eligibility Issues. Lunch was sponsored by Citibank, and Steve Morgan, brought by Chase Manhattan, sure made us cry. He made everyone laugh so hard; they were amazed at what an amazing person he is! In the afternoon, Marianna Deeken, notified us on the Federal Update. This last day of the conference ended with a sundae bar sponsored by ASAP/Union Bank & Trust. |
