State Updates...
Pacific Islands Update
Frank Green, PacFAA President

The USA Group held a very informative Student Loan-Default Management Workshop and Federal update on October 23, which was followed by their annual 'Pau Hana' reception, always an annual highlight for the Financial Aid community in Hawaii. This year was made extra special with the announcement of the retirement of Linda Kilburn - who has been a very well respected and liked individual in the Hawaii Financial Aid community for 20 years. We will all miss her, envy her and wish her a fantastic re-tirement. The next day was the Fall WASFAA/NASFAA training held at Windward Community College. We had our best turn out yet for the session - and Connie Burden and Catherine King-Todd did an excellent job as the trainers. Our annual High School Counselor training was held on November 2, on Oahu and November 3, in Hilo. Marianna Deeken of the US DOE, Region X, conducted the sessions this year. Our High School Parent nights are ready to go and will begin next month and continue through January. The annual Statewide Career and College Fair begins the second week of November, with two full days on Oahu and then on to the outer islands with sessions on Kauai, Maui and on Hawaii - in both Hilo and Kona. Planning for the Spring Conference (March 28/29, 2001) is well underway. This year the conference will be held at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, with the reception at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki. We are actively searching for potential candidates for next year's board, with the goal of having elections completed by March and the new board introduced at the Spring Conference. Jennifer Bradley, the past president of PacFAA, has taken on a new position. Formerly with Honolulu Community College, she is now the Financial Aid Officer at the University of Hawaii-West Oahu.
