PacFAA, Pacific Islands Update
by Frank Green, President
No web-site...yet
My apologies for not including a PacFAA region report in the
last issue. I thought of coming up with a very elaborate excuse
that would go something like:
Scheduled our school's team visitation for Reaccredidation
during the third week of April, our annual fiscal audits a week
later and our compliance audit the next week (all of which I
am personally responsible for) - and then two weeks prior
to all this we had the worst high rise fire in the history of
Hawaii - losing the elevators, lights, air conditioning, telephones
and our sanity in general...but I figured no one would
believe any of that - so...would you believe - we had a south
swell come up and the surf at Ala Moana Beach (which my
office over looks) was rolling in with perfect 4-5 foot sets - and
when in Hawaii!!!
PacFAA began our new year on May 01 by welcoming our
new board:
President -Frank Green, Travel Institute
Past President -Jennifer Bradley, Honolulu Community College
President Elect - Francis Dinnan, Kauai Comm College
Vice President -Ken Souza, EduCaid
Treasurer -Hansford Chock, ASAP/Union Band and Trust
Secretary -Lorraine Teniya, USA Group
At Large -Greg Yoshimura, UH - Manoa
At Large -Leighton Kato, Hawaii Business College
And with the Association's sincerest Mahalo to our outgoing
board: Gail Koki, Jennifer Bradley, Coleen Araki, Maria Burns
and Linda Kilburn.
We are now busy putting together the committees and
planning for our Fall Training, High School/Parent nights,
Career Fairs and Spring Conference.
May and June were busy months for training, with Federal
Computer Training, Perkins Loan Training and the 2000
WASFAA Advanced Track Summer Institute. It was great
having the Summer Institute in the Islands - both in being able
to extend our Aloha to the staff and mainland attendees as well
as having 14 participants attend from Hawaii.
Congratulations to the PacFAA Scholarship winners:
2000 WASFAA Basic Track Summer Institute (San Diego),
Jodie Kuba-Hawaii Pacific University and 2000 WASFAA
(Honolulu), Dean Nushida-UH-Manoa. Congratulations also
to Leighton Kato-Hawaii Business College, for receiving a
WASFAA Scholarship to attend the Basic Track Summer
Institute in San Diego.
