PacFAA: Pacific Islands
by Jennifer Bradley

March 23rd marked PacFAA's Spring 1999 Conference with a look at the old and a look at the new. The conference highlighted the Master Promissory Note and Early Awareness giving us a view of what we will be doing in the near future. Debbe Johnson from Educaid helped us navigate through the history and process of the MPN. Vince Davis from Bank of America presented the groundwork for us to improve and expand our Early Awareness activities.

We also all enjoyed our lunch with Beth Terry's rendition of "Getting Out of Overwhelm". Two scholarship opportunities for our members and their students were announced at our Business Meeting. The first is a scholarship to attend the WASFAA Summer Institute in Boise. The second is two $500 scholarships to students attending schools with PacFAA membership. This is a first endeavor of PacFAA to support professional development.

The 1998-99 PacFAA Executives were thanked for their service: Jennifer Bradley, President; Gail Koki, Past-President; Roberta Baptista, Vice President; Linda Kilburn, Treasurer; Jolyn Jardiolin; Donna Lubong, Parent Night Chair; and Johanna Falenofoa, Newsletter Editor.

On May 1, the new 1999-2000 PacFAA Executive Board begins their tenure. Congratulations to: Jennifer Bradley, re-elected President; Aileen Lum-Akana, President-Elect; Colleen Araki, Vice-President; Samantha Naipo-Arsign, Secretary; and Linda Kiburn, re-elected Treasurer. Gail Koki has graciously agreed to remain on the Board to resume the duties of Past-President.

PacFAA looks forward to the 1999-2000 year with the goals of improving and possibly expanding our Early Awareness Programs and expanding training opportunities.
