AASFAA: Arizona

AASFAA just ended its Spring Conference in Rio Rico. The theme of this conference was "Celebrating the Diversity of our Careers and Cultures". The Association continued the series of financial aid 101 training that began in November during the Fall Conference. We enjoyed a wonderful keynote address by Steve Saffron. His session titled "Say What? Up Your Attitude!" was a hit with all attendees.

The Association wanted to do something different this year with the funds generation through the conference auctions. A decision was made to use the funds for sending AASFAA members to the NASFAA conference in July. To be eligible for this award, a member had to volunteer to work on a committee and have never attended a NASFAA Conference. A little over $5,000 was raised during the year through our two auctions and AASFAA was able to award five people the opportunity to attend the conference. Congratulations to those winners!

AASFAA finally has a web site that is worth visiting. Many thanks to John Medley and Nichole Thompson on getting this completed. Everyone is welcome to see our "pride and joy" and can do so by dialing up - the address is aasfaa.org.

In closing, I want to thank all my board members, committee chairs and committee members for all their hard work and support during this past AASFAA year. I wish Howard Fischer, AASFAA's president effective July 1, and the best of luck as he takes over.
