Book/School Supply Project

Mr. Leonard Walker
Director of Financial Aid
University of Nevada, Reno
Reno, NV 89503

Dear Mr. Walker,

On behalf of Roger Corbett Elementary School, I would like to thank you and the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA) for your support of our school.

As a Title I school with a 95% low socioeconomic student body, it can be difficult to provide our students with the necessary tools that their peers of higher economic status have at their disposal. Often times, our students arrive at school without backpacks, pencils, notebooks, or crayons. These items may be minutia to some, but they are items that can be a hardship for the families of our students. Books are also items that many of our students do not have at home. Every year we try to add to our resources so that every student can take three to four books home every night for easy reading. As for computers, they are very scarce in the homes of our children. As a result, Roger Corbett Elementary, must provide much needed support to our students so that their education is equitable to those of students with more means.

The generosity of WASFAA in providing school supplies for our students is truly appreciated by the entire Roger Corbett community. We have very high expectations for our students and we accept no excuses for them not becoming the scholars they are capable of becoming. Having the appropriate tools is one step in creating a learning environment that expects the best, and we do!

Most sincerely,
Patricia M. Casarez
